DVD Scams

Warning: Video labs are trying to pass off VCD as DVD. You will find that they are a cheap way to record about 60 minutes of video. Not very good if you are trying to watch your home movies. They also may not play in your DVD player. Quality will also be marginal as much of the information is compressed from your original video. DV video requires 1 GB of storage for each 4.5 minutes of program. A DVD has 4.7 GB of storage and can hold up to 2 hours of compressed M-Peg 2 video. Do not be confused with the quality of movies purchased of videos rented as they usually are copied from D1 quality video. Your home movie quality will not be the same. We do not consider Mpeg 1 or VCD to be of any value. We call this herky jerky. One-half information is field video. We want the highest quality video signal for masters of film transfer or for video duplication. For this reason we recommend DVD as a medium to view, not as a master. A master should be a high quality, high information medium suitable for copying to the viewing format.

VCD is a 700 mb disc that is being passed off as 4.7 gb DVD. Common charge would be $25.00. We think free is a good price for your viewing copy, and $4.99 for each additional copy.

Anyone who calls a VHS tape a master for film transfer is ripping you off and taking your money. Minimum requirements for analog would be S-VHS.

Stay tuned we will expose more misleading "Deals" on the Web.
